🌿 Active Hope – Beyond Climate Fatalism 🐝

This day-long workshop on deep ecology offers a guided space for collective reflection on what it means to be alive in an era of planetary crisis.
How do we process this reality on a psychological level? What prevents many of us from taking action to protect all endangered life forms, including our own species? And how do those engaged in activism stay motivated throughout their efforts?

While a single workshop cannot fully address these complex questions, the facilitators aim to provide participants with a variety of guided practices to explore these topics with curiosity 🐛 Activities will range from mindful dialogue in pairs to exercises that enhance emotional, creative, and bodily awareness. Participants will also be invited to fully engage their senses to consider the crisis from the perspective of non-human beings 🐙

Hope Is Something We Build Together

This workshop is inspired by the work of scholars and activists Joanna Macy and Molly Brown and is founded on a key principle:
Emotions and feelings are not obstacles to action.
Through collective support, we can allow ourselves to experience sorrow, anger, and despair—without succumbing to climate fatalism. Hope is not a passive feeling; it is the result of a collective effort, something we cultivate and reach for together 🌱

The Facilitators

Lisa Savoia

My academic background is in cultural anthropology, and my experiential background is in climate activism.
I was drawn to Joanna Macy’s work because it integrates regeneration—offering a space to pause and feel deeply amidst the hustle and bustle of daily life—with reflection and conscious reconnection to the reasons that led activists and changemakers to the path of action.

I am a PhD researcher in entanglement with life purpose and multispecies studies. With the support of the interconnected web of all lives, I have been weaving time and space for ecological selves and new emergences in this industrial growth society.
