The host organisation Ikko is a folk high school offering both general and vocational education for Finnish and international adult students during the school year and different groups throughout the year. Volunteer tasks
This ESC volunteering team will give you ideas and new energy for life management and job hunting. During the two weeks the participants will discover their strengths and practise their skills in making good job applications, polishing their CVs, rehearsing video presentations as well as setting up interview simulations.
The team will learn about the possibilities and recognition of non-formal learning such as YouthPass in volunteering programs and how that can be beneficial when applying for jobs.
The participants will also discuss and learn more about the similarities and differences in European countries regarding youth wellbeing, working culture and unemployment. The participants will increase their labour market awareness and learn to map job opportunities widely.
The focus is on mutual learning, growing together and empowerment. This volunteering team will also do some practical work for the environment, and get to know the surroundings.
Free time
There will also be time to relax and enjoy beautiful nature and peaceful surroundings, as well as try out Finnish summer activities. This project suits people who enjoy being in rural area, as the school is located in the Finnish countryside surrounded by lakes.
Accommodation
Accommodation will be in shared rooms in the student dormitory, all meals provided. There are possibilities for various creative and other activities. Sauna and swimming facilities are also available.
Location
Punkaharju is located in eastern Finland near Savonlinna and it takes four hours by train from Helsinki. The school is situated in a location of natural beauty, surrounded on both sides by lakes. In this place you get to enjoy the Finnish countryside with its beautiful lakes and forests. The area offers good opportunities for outdoor activities such as hiking.
More information
This volunteering team is meant for young people (18-30) from Finland and other EU countries and Ukraine who feel the need for peer support and new ideas to improve their life situation, self-knowledge and employability. Each participant can contribute to the success of the team, discover new possibilities, support and learn from each other.
Participation is free of charge, as well as board and lodging. Volunteers need to stay the full duration of the project in order to get pocket money (5 euros per day) and travel cost reimbursed (20-530 euros depending on the distance).
