Kaurisniemen eläinkoti (Kaurisniemi Animal Home) is a small, non-profit organization founded in 2017 that operates as a nursing home for animals. They have chickens, rabbits, cats, a dog, sheep and horses. They are developing their operations to receive especially horses. Kaurisniemi Animal Home shares information about animal care and animal-friendly training, do rehabilitation, and help animals that can't find a home elsewhere.

Volunteer tasks
The goal of this volunteering team is to improve the facilities of the animals. Tasks include for example cleaning and washing the barns , cleaning the forest, making pastures, and cleaning pasture areas, e.g. from hawthorn.
The work tasks of the volunteers are mostly cleaning the environment, building fences and renovation,, but in small groups it's possible to take care of the animals and get to know them under guidance. During the project, two new horses move in, for which facilities are being prepared.
Although the work is mainly renovation work outside, this team is not suitable for people with animal allergies.
Accommodation
Simple shared accommodation in a separate house about three kilometers from the animal home. Volunteers must have their own sleeping bags and towels. The accommodation has a sauna outside and a swimming area. Cooking is done together in small groups.
Location
The accommodation and the animal farm are in the middle of nature in a very quiet place in Perniö, southern Finland, near the town of Salo. It's located around 2 hours from Helsinki, the capital of Finland and you can arrive there with a bus. The facilities remind the spirit of old times as the animal farm is over 100 years old.

There are many wild animals in the area, such as deer, elk, foxes, snakes, ticks, various birds and rabbits. The team offers the opportunity to enjoy a peaceful rural life, in your free time you can get to know the surrounding area, and at midsummer there is joint program with the people of the animal home.
Project is supported by the European Solidarity Corps and open for 18-30 year old citizens and permanent residents of EU countries and Ukraine. Participation is free of charge, as well as board and lodging. Volunteers need to stay the full duration of the project in order to get pocket money (5 euros per day) and travel cost reimbursed (20-530 euros depending on the distance).
