Volunteer profile

We especially welcome applicants with little previous international experience. We are looking for responsible and flexible volunteers with willingness to help and cooperate in a team. The position is suitable for any English-speaking (in the level of conversation) young person aged 18-30. If you have some experience in team sports and/or work with kids and young people, it’s a plus but not mandatory.

We hope that the volunteers are positive, enjoy socializing and doing activities in a multicultural environment, with the wish to get some valuable experiences from Finland. The volunteers will help teams from different countries, for example Latvia, Estonia and Romania. Also in-country volunteers from Finland are warmly welcomed, and can apply to be team leaders if they wish, too.

Since the volunteers will work with kids and young people, a criminal record is required. Volunteers will mainly move around by bike, so some skills in cycling are beneficial (option to walk too). LEKO is unobstructed in the study area only, so unfortunately, we cannot provide a place for a volunteer who is in a wheelchair.

Accommodation and meals

The participants will share a room with another volunteer in the LEKO student’s dormitory. During working days, the food will be served in the school canteen.

Location and description of the area

LEKO is located in Hirvikoski, in a calm and beautiful village in South-West Finland, next to Loimaa town. It is located around 150 km from Helsinki, and 70 km from Turku.

You will have 2 working areas – LEKO school and Power Cup in the center of Loimaa town (4-5 km from LEKO). You can choose walking or bicycles. A minibus will be used in some special cases for bigger groups. Our work language is Finnish, but with the volunteers we use English. LEKO, as well as children and youth volleyball tournament Power Cup are addictive substances free areas.
